Smoltz 3000 K\'s
On April 22nd 2008, 2 Standing ovations for an amazing lifetime achievment by John
Smoltz. John records his 3000th career strikeout during last nights game against the Washington
Nationals. John Smoltz would end the night with 6 more strikeouts putting him at 3,006 for his
career. The Lucky batter to help Smoltz recieve the 3,000th strikeout would be the Nationals
Felipe Lopez. John would join former teammate Greg Maddux in the 3,000 Strikeout Club as the 16th
player in baseball histroy to reach such a milestone. Other players to achieve this would be Nolan
Ryan 5,714, Roger Clemens 4,672, Randy Johnson 4,629, Steve Carlton 4,136, Bert Blyleven 3,701, Tom
Seaver 3,640, Don Sutton 3,574, Gaylord Perry 3,534, Walter Johnson 3,508, Phil Neikro 3,342, Greg
Maddux 3,287, Ferguson Jenkins 3,192, Bob Gibson 3,117, Curt Schilling 3,116, & Pedro Martinez
3,031. Unfortunately, the Braves would lose the game 6 - 0, with a current season record of 10
- 10. The Braves will start their series against the Division Leading Florida Marlins tonight at
7:00 pm. Followed by the New York Mets who are currently 2nd in the N.L. East.
